Travelling back through time, a unique experience awaits visitors: the journey leads you by rail through mountain valleys, along the banks of the Salzkammergut Lakes and by boat over Lake Hallstatt. Encountering all the elements, the aromatic mountain air and nature at its most magnificent, you will voyage through the history of salt, stretching back over thousands of years.

The funicular railway takes you safely up into the Hallstatt High Valley, and then, after an approximately 15-minute walk through the historic terrain, you will arrive at the entrance to Hallstatt Salt Mine.

As the oldest salt mine in the world, it looks back over a fascinating 7,000-year history. An exciting adventure awaits visitors as they experience the history of the mine in a 90-minute tour underground! The intriguing history of salt mining, from the Neolithic period to the hi-tech of today, is presented using state-of-the-art multi-media technology. Slide down the 60-metre long mega-slides; discover mysterious tunnels and the subterranean salt lake, and enjoy a breath-taking ride on the mine railway! This tour offers you an impressive mix of scientific discovery and exciting entertainment for all the family.

The rail ticket is valid for 1 calendar day (for a single round trip). Departing from any ÖBB station in Austria to the individual destinations, with an ÖBB train of your choice listed in the valid ÖBB timetable (for selected routes - further information is available from the ÖBB ticket counters, the ÖBB customer service or at railtours.oebb.at).
The Kombiticket is not valid for night trains!

Together with your rail ticket, you will receive a voucher for your leisure activity. At the ticket office of the recreational facility you would like to visit, you can then exchange this voucher for your ticket.

Before buying a Kombiticket, please make sure you enquire about the opening hours and days closed or check the operating days and operating hours on the individual partners’ websites.

Children below the age of 4 years are not allowed to visit the salt mine. Children above the age of 4 and under the age of 6 pay the admission fee (15 euros) directly at the cash desk for the Salt Worlds, and for the transfer by boat directly on the boat (4 euros).
